O BTO Amtrak VISION GG1 #921 Phase I
Amtrak’s early years were anything but boring! Trains became rolling rainbows as the best available cars were
pulled from wherever they could be found and reassigned wherever most needed. It would only take a few
years before new equipment, rebuilding and repainting would craft a uniform look.
Recreate the patchwork quilt of an early 70’s Amtrak train with these new cars from Lionel! The sets feature cars from
multiple predecessors, all documented in their original schemes in Amtrak service, along with a couple of freshly
repainted cars in the “Phase 1” paint scheme. Perfect behind a GG1 or a pair of E8s, you’d be hard pressed to find
a more interesting prototypical passenger consist to add to your layout! But it wasn’t just the passenger cars which
needed to be updated. As new equipment came on line, Amtrak needed a head-end-power solution to its
aging locomotive fleet which still had steam generators. Car 695 is one of these early HEP cars and just what you
need to pull new Amfleets behind your VISION GG1.
