Fire Boat Harbour
1:160 scale. Measures 5.5 inches long when complete. Nice little detailed
kit. The models in this particular set are designed for general use in
N-scale (1:160) model railroad layouts or waterfront dioramas. While
specific, individual boat histories are not associated with these generic
models, their real-world counterparts have rich histories as vital parts of
maritime commerce and service.
Fireboats are specialized vessels with powerful pumps and hoses used to
fight fires from the water, often protecting port facilities and ships. The
first fireboats, dating to the late 18th century, were tugboats,
retrofitted with firefighting equipment. They are frequently used for
fighting fire son docks and shore side warehouses as they can directly
attack fires in the supporting underpinnings of these structures. They also
have an effectively unlimited supply of water available, pumping directly
from below the hull. Fireboats are usually seen by the public when
welcoming a fleet or historical ships when they shoot large arcs of water
in the air with their powerful water cannons.
