O BTO PRR SuperBass GP9B #7185B
Pennsylvania SuperBass GP9B #7185B
In the tradition of the “covered wagons,” EMD offered a
B unit model for it’s GP7 and GP9. B units gave all the same
power and performance as a standard GP-9 but saved
the costs of cabs and controls. Most roads preferred the
flexibility to use their Geeps in single as well as multiple
unit service, and only the Pennsylvania and Union Pacific
ordered GP9Bs. The Pennsy’s fleet survived through
Penn Central and into Conrail before retirement. Uncle
Pete’s made it to the early 1970s.
A perfect pairing with the GP9s, these
B units can be used with other power as well. There
are lots of photos from both railroads showing them
coupled to a great variety of power – from GP30s to
DD35s! As SuperBass units, these locomotives will crank
up the bass and offer great sounds in any consist. In
addition to SuperBass sounds, these locomotives
include smoke, lighting and an ElectroCoupler. Available
for the first time with LEGACY, these GP9Bs should be a
welcome addition for any Geep fan.
