O RI Al Capone Coaches
Rock Island Al Capone Coaches 4-Pack
Built between 1923 and 1929 by Standard Steel, the Rock Island’s
commuter coaches remained in service relatively unchanged for nearly
60 years. Sometimes called “Capone coaches” because they were in
Chicago commuter service during the infamous gangster’s era, the cars
accommodated 100 riders each with minimal comforts. Throwbacks to a
long-gone era by the time of their retirement, more than a dozen have
been preserved. This four-pack will put you on your way to a typical
Chicago commuter consist as they looked in the 1960s and beyond – a
perfect pairing for our E6 diesels and other power.
